Whitney Elizabeth Houston was born on August 9th in 1963, on the 9th of August, 1963 in Newark New Jersey. She is a child of the gospel music legend Cissy Houston(nee Emily Lee Drinkard), and John Russell Houston Jr. Whitney Houston's cousin Dionne Warswick also sings. When she was a kid she performed in the New Hope Baptist Church Choir in Newark. When she was 15years old, Houston was singing professionally with backing vocals alongside her mother on Chaka Khan's song from 1978 Im Every Woman. In 1981, she briefly worked as a fashion model and appeared on the Seventeen cover. Also, she provided backing vocals to Jermaine and Lou Rawls. The quality of her work as the featured vocalist of New York funk group Material attracted the attention of several major record companies including Arista and Arista, which she signed her contract in 1982 and remained for the remainder of her career. The debut Whitney Houston album was released in the year 1985. It was one of the most successful albums by an artist. On the album, she released several hit singles like Saving the Day, All My Love for You How Do You Know You Give Good Love? and The Greater Love of All. This led to her achieving seven US Top Ones in a row. She beat even the Beatles. It sold three million copies its first year, and 25 million globally. She won her six Grammys for her first time. However it came with The Bodyguard (1996) that established her as the top selling album in music. While the movie and the performances of the actress were not well-received, the soundtrack album featuring her rendition of Dolly Parton's I Will Always Love You was the top-selling single for several months.
