April Ross
April Ross, a beach volleyball player from the United States is part of a select set of females who've been awarded medals at multiple Olympics. In Tokyo during the next few days, she'll try to net her third medal alongside the first-time Olympian Alix Klineman. Ross wants to achieve more than just her first Olympic medal. With her age of 39, this may be Ross' last chance to win an Olympic gold. The athlete is optimistic she'll be successful in achieving top honours. If we play our best or even if we do well, I believe we'll be able to win that gold medal Ross said via NBC Boston. It's also going to be an issue of luck. Ross was born in 1982 in Costa Mesa California where she lived with her parents and her sister. Ross's athletic endeavors was continued by Newport Harbor High School where she played in a variety of different sports. Her prep athletic career included indoor volleyball as well as basketball, track and running. She was definitely the best at the sport of indoor volleyball. According to her bio, she played a middle blocker and an outside hitter on the volleyball court during her senior year at high school. The award was presented to her as one of the Gatorade National Circle of Champions Player of the Year in 1999 due to her accomplishments. The 2000 Orange County Athlete of the Month was also received by her for volleyball. Ross is currently working with Klineman from 2017 but her beach game had been established long before the year. She has had the chance to win numerous events, and one was won by the legendary player of volleyball. Jennifer Kessy was her partner during six years between 2007 and the year 2013. She also worked with Klineman as well as herself. Together, Kessy Ross, she was a major force on the international stage, claiming the world championship in 2009. They won a Silver Medal during the 2012 Olympic Games held in London. Misty May Treanor and Kerri Jennings, the team of legends that took home the Olympic gold medal in 2012 in London, beat each other to take home the gold. The fate of the matter was that Ross turned out to be Walsh Jennings' new partner when May-Treanor retired. In 2016, the pair were awarded bronze medals at the Rio Olympics for beach volleyball. Ross was a student athlete with the Trojans of USC prior to starting her professional career. She played during high school, as well as before hitting the beach professionally. This was an impressive run for Ross at the school. In 2000, she was voted Pac-10 Freshman of the Year and NCAA Freshman Of The Year and an All-American. She also helped her Trojans to reach the Final Four. During her sophomore year she suffered a tremendous personal setback but managed to make it back as an All-American. Through her last two years as a player, she led the Trojans to the summit by winning two successive national titles. As an individual, she established herself as an all-time legend by winning the 2003-04 Honda Sports Award as the most outstanding female college volleyball player. Ross played international relations as a major at USC. Sadly, Ross mother Margie never got to see her daughter ascend to the highest levels of beach volleyball superstardom. Ross lost her mom to cancer of the breast in 2001. Ross was then a sophomore. Her mother is still close to her heart. Margie at the beach as well as in everyday life, inspires her.
